Deep teambuilding insight from an unexpected, yet utterly logical source
The Ideal Team Player is an essential teambuilding guide presented in fable form. Bestselling author Patrick Lencioni continues the story from The Five Dysfunctions as we follow Jeff Shanley to Napa, where he draws on the lessons learned from DecisionTech CEO Kathryn Petersen to take over the family business. Frustrated by a series of bad hires, Jeff turns to a local college basketball coach to learn the secrets of building a great team. You'll learn along with Jeff as the coach relates the three major traits that impact the team's success more than any technical approach and the teambuilding recipe that yields great results every time. A nonfiction model follows the story to show you how to implement these ideas in the real world, giving you a workable foundation for finding the right people for the job.

Building a great team is a complex endeavour. It's not as simple as collecting the right skill sets—the human element is actually a more critical factor in long-term performance. This book shows you how to put the right people together to achieve your goals every time.

•Discover the types of people every team needs
•Learn the three critical traits used to evaluate team players
•Utilize evaluation criteria on an ongoing basis
•Customize a proven system for building your ideal team

The word "synergy" is often dismissed as a buzzword, but it's really an essential ingredient to a successful team. A collection of people with varying talents, skills, and perspectives can either clash and crash, or feed off one another's energy to produce incredible results. The Ideal Team Player shows you how to evaluate your prospects and pick the stars that shine brightest together.

I'm a big fan of Lencioni and wasn't disappointed this time. It doesn't have the "light bulb" moment for me that "The Five Dysfunctions of a Team: A Leadership Fable (J-B Lencioni Series) had, but it's still a good fable and good advice at the end. The most important thing for me were example interview questions to find out the personality traits. As a software developer, I have worked with a lot of people that are quite clearly missing at least one of the three ideals. I have seen the damage they do first hand, so I can't wait to apply some of the advice.

Very engaging and well written. Not only does it outline the three virtues but there's a set of interview questions included to ensure that others meet the necessary criteria. A practical, helpful guide, with something new and refreshing to offer in this saturated market.

Competent and coherent guide to team-building. It's a succinct book that covers all the necessary ground and the perfect resource for understanding what makes a team work and how to motivate it's individual members to work effectively in a collective manner. Well worth a look.
